A couple’s retreat just before the child is born is a great way for expecting parents to strengthen their relationship and spend enough time with each other before a child comes into their life,” says clinical psychologist Seema Hingorrany.
So, what is a babymoon?
It’s more like a honeymoon which is planned when the wife is expecting and is possibly in her seventh or the eighth month of pregnancy.
A babymoon is actually the time when couples can celebrate the last few months of pregnancy before the baby is finally born.
How it benefits
Allows you to acknowledge your relationship: With the arrival of a third being in your life, your world is sure to change (for the better of course). But at times, couples don’t get to be the same with each other once a child comes into the perspective. All those sleepless nights may surely take the romance out of your life. Thus, this is the time when you can head out with your loved one to an ideal destination and spend some quiet time together.

Helps you bond with your parents/in-laws as well: Give a new twist to the concept of babymoon and instead of just going out with your spouse, take your parents or in-laws with you as well. Not only will they appreciate it but you will also get some quality time to spend with them. Utilise this time to get useful advise from your mother or mom-in-law on ways you can take care of the baby.
Relaxation for the would-be-mother: The past few months has definitely given you sleepless nights. So, use this time for yourself. Indulge in whatever you like doing — be it going in for a back or body massage or eating your favourite cuisine or simply heading out for a walk along the beach or woods with your husband. There is nothing better than catching up on a good sleep while you are on your babymoon.
Prepares you for parenthood better: Says 31-year-old Mitali Gupta who went on a babymoon early this year, “Due to the nature of my husband’s work, he hardly got time to experience the first few months of my pregnancy. Thus, when I was eight months pregnant, we decided to take a week off and headed to Colombo for our babymoon. Apart from spending time together, my husband also learnt how I’d been coping with my pregnancy and both of us got enough time to plan the years ahead as well.”
