117kg of smuggled silver ornaments recovered, 4 held

VARANASI: Four smugglers of silver ornaments were arrested from Tapti-Ganga Express on Thursday and 117 kgs of ornaments valued at Rs 70 lakhs were recovered from them.
When the cops started checking the bogies of this train four persons including Manoj, Santosh, Mukesh and Arvind were caught for carrying huge quantities of silver ornaments without documents.
During interrogation, it came to light that they had purchased silver ornaments from Rajkot and boarded Tapti-Ganga Express from Surat to go to Chhapra in Bihar. The gang was engaged in silver ornament smuggling for past one year.
The GRP handed over the recovered ornaments to the sales tax officials. The sales tax officials informed that Rs 40 lakhs would be realized as penalty if anyone turns up to get the seized articles. The arrested persons were released on submitting personal bonds.
