Plans for fish mill factory in Samoa at Tafaigata

A proposed fish mill factory in Samoa is expected to benefit from a fish loin plant that is to be built in Apia.

The Prime Minister, Tuila'epa Sa'ilele Malielegaoi, said in his weekly radio programme that the waste from the US owned Bumble Bee plant will be taken to the proposed fish mill to produce pig and chicken food.

Tuila'epa revealed the fish mill project in response to the opposition's concerns at the odours that the fish loin plant, to be located on Matautu wharf in Apia, may generate.

Company representatives have given reassurances that the plant will be sealed to stop the smell.

However, the opposition Shadow Minister for Finance, Afualo Dr Woods Salele, has told reporters he does not trust what the company representatives have said.

Bumble Bee is expected to start construction work for the fish loin plant before the end of this year, an investment that's expected to create 1000 local jobs.
