Second list out, popular courses still up for grabs

Of the 54 colleges which offer BCom (Honours), a second round of admissions will take place in 44 colleges.

Delhi University released its second cut-off list for undergraduate admissions on Thursday night with a considerable number of colleges keeping admission open to popular courses such as Economics (Honours), English (Honours) and BCom (Honours). The cut-offs, however, have only marginally dropped in the second list.

Of the 54 colleges which offer BCom (Honours), a second round of admissions will take place in 44 colleges. The cut-offs for the course remained high at several colleges. At Hindu College, general category students will need to a score of 97-99.5 per cent to get admitted to BCom (Honours) as opposed to 99.75-97.25 per cent in the first list.

Another college which maintained its BCom (Honours) cut-off at 99.5 per cent was Motilal Nehru College. For general category students, the college requires a best of four aggregate between 94 and 99.5 per cent.

While many sought-after colleges such as Ramjas and Kamla Nehru College have closed admissions for History (Honours), students can still try their luck at DU’s 40-odd colleges. Popular colleges where history is still on offer include Miranda House, Lady Shri Ram College and Hansraj College.

Economics (Honours), a sought-after subject in the university, is still on offer in 47 of the University’s 56 colleges.

Festive offer

Colleges like Shaheed Bhagat Singh College (morning) and Kamla Nehru College will not be coming out with a second list for most courses. Among popular colleges, Kirorimal, Gargi and Ramjas will see a second round of admissions in 3-4 humanities and commerce courses.

While admissions for general category have been closed for Economics (Honours) course at Shri Ram College of Commerce, admissions to BCom (Honours) are still open. The general category cut-offs for the courses at SRCC have dipped by 0.25 per cent – from to 97.5-99.25 in the first list to 97.25-99 per cent in the second list.

Courses were where cut-offs remained above 99 per cent include BCom (H) and Computer Science (H). After announcing a 100 per cent cut-off for Computer Science (H) in the first list, Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College has decreased the cut-off by one per cent. At 94-99 per cent, Indraprastha College for Women has also kept the computer science cut-off high in the second list.

Among science courses, colleges which have witnessed the highest decrease in the second cut-off list are Dyal Singh College and Gargi College for their BSc Physics Honours course in PWD category at 20%. And the minimum cut-off is 57% for the BSc Statistics (H) in PGDAV.

Eight of the 45 colleges offering Mathematics have closed admissions this year. These include Deshbandhu, Hindu, Kalindi, Maitreyi, PGDAV, Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Shivaji and Venky. Also, three colleges have closed admissions for physics and four in chemistry honours courses.

Meanwhile, courses such as Urdu (H), Punjabi (H)and Sanskrit (H) have seen the lowest cut-offs in the second list. At 40 per cent for reserved categories, Satyawati, Kirori Mal, Mata Sundri and SGTB Khalsa are some of the colleges where cut-offs are considerably low.
