THE COLOUR PALETTE

International trade show Pitti Filati Autmn Winter 2014–15 season unfurled a burst of colours for the upcoming season. The event suggested that the colours are going to take centre stage this fall winter, and a huge assortment of shades including colour-fl ooded pattern, rust and black with the blend of white and colour block oversized jackets were introduced. It is trending now and it is just right for the fashion-conscious youth.

Another innovative trade fair for contemporary clothing culture, Bread & Butter (B&B) Fall Winter 2014–15 season presented the colour craze for the season. At the event strong mustard was spotted as the most noticeable colour, especially for outerwear. From the lighter tones of yellow to the intense mustard, various shades of this hue were seen making a strong visual presence. Brands like American Swan, Only, Status Quo and Manish Creations have shared that the different tones of yellow will dominate their Fall/Winter 2014 collections. As per American Swan, sporty yellow will be the differentiator for their upcoming collection. The lifestyle fashion brand for women from the Bestseller group, Only has also revealed warm yellow as a colour that will dominate their Fall/Winter 2014 collection.

According to the B&B FW’14 trade event, the various tones of berry colour are another hit trend in the upcoming season. Colours like plum, maroon, burgundy, azalea, and vintage shades of oxblood complete the family of different berry hues. On the similar grounds, the international brand Timberland is offering the colour in puffer jackets to the knitted accessories for women. Vero Moda, the understated luxury brand, has introduced the azalea tone for the season in its various categories. The men’s clothing brand, Teemper has introduced burgundy in its Fall/Winter 2014 collection that takes inspiration from the earthen tones with a touch of trimming of fabrics to have the wintry feel. The concepts give hints of European and Turkish fashion.

Other brands like IML Jeans and Classic Polo also have the rich colour in their fall winter Palette. The season will also witness a few more deep hues from other colour families, such as brown, khaki, olive, green, indigo, fuchsia, orange, etc. According to the lifestyle brands Desi Belle, Taanz and Success, various tones of black ranging from charcoal to grey will be in for both, men and women. Same goes for the blue hue, as it will create an impact with midnight blue and royal blue.

DESIGN & STYLES

In terms of style and design, globally, checks are quite powerful. One of the most popular and celebrated checks, tartan, is the inspiration for many national and international brands. Checks have used beautifully for the interpretation of shirts that makes the category all the more colourful and vibrant. Button-down shirt is the extension of this category and fashion brand 109°F has introduced the cut for the season. The category of tops and t-shirts is quite elaborate and this season boxy tops, oversized tops and cropped tops will rule the roost. Also neckline this season becomes an essential element and the round necks, crew neck, o-necks and roll neck continue to top the fashion charts. On the other hand, voluminous sleeves are also making an impact.

In the outewear category, brands like Being Human Clothing, Vero Moda, American Swan, Taanz and Only have introduced a gamut of options including hoodies in new fabrics, pique and Neoprene sweatshirts, cut and sew puffer jackets in bright colours and long cardigans. The quilted outerwear and puffer jackets are the most prominent trends in this segment. As per the B&B FW ’14 show, there were some more innovative uses of quilting. Parisian prêt-àporter brand Eleven Paris has used quilted leather in a leather jacket to achieve that fabulous effect, whereas Levi’s has used the technique with the stitch lines in creating mountain-like detail in its padded denim jacket.

For dresses women have numerous options to pick from shift dresses to straight skirts, pleated dresses, V-shape dresses, pear shape, hourglass patterns, drop-shoulder dresses, fit and fl ared dresses, calf-length dresses and fl ower-printed tunics. In this segment, embellishment is the key to accentuate both the femininity and the concept of modern luxury with shining beads and luxurious crystals. If we talk about the international bottomwear trends, then coloured jeans are now taking a backseat and familiar blue washes are taking their place to rule the denim market and the season. Since the washes may not be afresh factor, the freshness is introduced through the exciting developments in texture.

As per the Who’s Next fashion trade show in Europe organised twice a year in January and July at Porte de Versailles in Paris, joggers’ pants, alternatively called the oversized trousers, are reinvented – inspired by the jogging style of the ’90s. The comfortable slim narrow bottomwear is emerging as a next big trend this season. The denim brand Deal Jeans supports the trend of slim fi t legwear including printed bottoms in ankle-length. Menswear brand Turtle has introduced narrow-fi t suits, skinny pants and slim-fit easy pants in its latest collection. Plazzos are known for their comfort quotient and keeping this in mind, desibelle has brought slim-cut plazzos for the customers. The season is reviving the skinny fi t jeans with details like raw, unfinished hemlines that create vintage looks, while zip hemlines that offer a biker sentiment. On the contrary, 109°F has unveiled flared pants for the season. IML Jeans has introduced the tomboy-chic influenced womenswear with slimline, tapered styles in their fall winter collection.

The brand shares that the focus on authentic denim five-pocket styling will stay with key looks including dark rinses and clean-frayed damage to decorative laundered repair style in line with the boro patchwork direction. The flare is infused with tomboy-chic look, creating a loose fitting 90s silhouette with wide bell-bottom proportions. Jack & Jones’ fall winter collection features cropped pants, single-pleated pants and pencil-fit trousers for men.

Whereas for women, Only has introduced tailored jogger pants and second skin-fit jeggings. Yellow Jeans, which intends to be known as a fashion denim brand with a mass appeal, has launched a basic premium look, clean finishes with washes in their fall winter 2014 collection. Fit-wise narrow bottom is in and the boot cut is an international trend as per the brand.
