Parinda

Year: 1989
Director: Vidhu Vinod Chopra,
Producer: Vidhu Vinod Chopra
Cast: Jackie Shroff, Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Nana Patekar, Anupam Kher
Music: RD Burman

Vidhu Vinod Chopra's tragic romantic tale set in the heart of Mumbai's underworld is considered by many film buffs as a landmark underbelly film. Parinda humanises gangsters and portrays its lead characters played by Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Madhuri Dixit and Nana Patekar in a new light. It blurs the lines of black and white for its heroes. It even adds shades of grey to the bad guy. As two brothers face-off on conflicting sides of morality, Parinda speaks of themes like family values, bonding, unemployment, illegal trades etc. RD Burman's music adds depth to Parinda's drama. Nana Patekar comes into his own while portraying a mercurial gangster. Parinda's emotionally charged content and eye-catching cinematography won it rave reviews. Vidhu Vinod Chopra won the Filmfare Best Director Award and Jackie Shroff took home the Best Actor trophy.
