An 18-year-old boy from Chiplun fell to his death from a local train near Kharghar railway station in Navi Mumbai on Tuesday. His 23-year-old brother who also fell down, sustained injuries and is now recuperating at a private hospital in Belapur.

According to the railway police, Motin Kaji, elder brother Mutalik and their parents were on their way to a marine institute in Belapur. After reaching Panvel, they boarded a CST-bound train to reach Belapur.

While Motin and Mutalik were travelling in one compartment, their parents were in a different compartment. Motin recently got admission at the institute and it was reportedly his first day of college. Mutalik and their parents had come to drop him.

"Motin was standing on the footboard and Mutalik was just behind him in the crowded compartment. As the train crossed Kharghar station around 9.20 am, Motin lost his balance and was about to fall off the train. As Mutalik tried to save him by pulling him back, both of them fell off," said a police official from Panvel GRP.

GRP officials reached the spot within a few minutes and rushed them to a hospital in Belapur. "Motin suffered severe injuries on his entire body and was announced dead on arrival. Mutalik is still undergoing treatment and is reportedly out of danger," the officer said.

The police sent Motin's body to Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Hospital in Vashi for postmortem and then handed it over to his family. The postmortem reports are yet to come and the police have registered a case of accidental death.
