Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has effected yet another reshuffle, albeit a minor one, in his government, clipping the wings of a minister of state Waseem Ahmed by curtailing his portfolio while rewarding Kailash Chaurasia, who had contested the Lok Sabha election against Narendra Modi in Varanasi and lost, with the department of child development and nutrition.

The department was withdrawn from Waseem Ahmed, who now only holds department of basic education.

In an order issued on June 20, Akhilesh mentioned that except policy decisions, Chaurasia has been authorised to do all the work of child development and nutrition.

Chaurasia, who got 45,291 votes against Modi and finished fifth, confirmed as much. “I am aware of such order and it has been issued by CM,” he said. Chaurasia was inducted as minister of state in a cabinet reshuffle on June 18.

Waseem Ahmed refused to attend to any query in this regard.

Festive offer

Ironically, party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav had got a lead of nearly 15,000 votes from Ahmed’s Assembly constituency Gopalpur under Azamgarh Lok Sabha seat. Mulayam won the Azamgarh seat by a margin of 63,204 votes defeating BJP’s Ramakant Yadav.

He has retained the Azamgarh seat while relinquishing Mainpuri —- the other seat he had won.

In his victory margin in Azamgarh, maximum contribution was from Gopalpur Assembly seat where he led by 14,996 votes. Azamgarh, which is represented by transport minister Durga Prasad Yadav and prison minister Balram Yadav, gave a lead margin of 11,859 votes.

In the post-election reshuffle, Balram Yadav’s portfolio was changed and he was shifted from Panchayti Raj to Prisons.
