UConn coach Kevin Ollie scored a big commitment Monday morning as ESPN 100 guard Jalen Adams chose the Huskies over Louisville and Kansas.
Adams, the nation's No. 33 senior, had been on Connecticut's campus twice in recent weeks, most recently on Sunday afternoon when he visited with his parents, and ultimately that proved to be enough.
"It was because of the coaching staff and the style of play," Adams told ESPN.com. "Coach Ollie lets the guards play. It's a guards-based program."
It also didn't hurt that Adams is from the same greater Boston area that produced Shabazz Napier, who just led the Huskies to their fourth national championship in the past 15 years and played his way into the first round of the NBA draft.
"Seeing what Coach Ollie did with a local guard from where I'm from, it definitely made a difference," Adams said, "and made me believe that if I put in the same amount of work that I could potentially end up with a similar opportunity."
Adams' AAU coach Vinny Pastore also credited the unique fit while noting the amount of time Ollie and his staff had invested in recruiting the ESPN 100 guard.
"It's just a perfect fit for him," Pastore said. "Their style of play, the tradition they have of developing guards to play free. I think Jalen has always wanted to go to UConn, and they recruited him the entire time."
While Adams looked at other schools, the Huskies were always considered the front-runner. They not only made him a priority early in the process but continued to recruit him aggressively through this weekend.
Their hard work paid off as they scored one of the best guards in the 2015 class and possibly the best playmaking guard to come out of the Boston area since Napier.
