But once again the main urban areas of Lithgow local government area escaped the snow with the falls confined to the rural outskirts.
There was a wide blanket of snow over the countryside around Sunny Corner and at Oberon at the weekend.
In Lithgow, Wallerawang, Portland and the upper Blue Mountains there was sleet and the constant threat — and forecasts — of more substantial falls.
But it was the string icy winds from the south west that made the weekend bitterly cold, presenting a challenge for anyone brave enough to engage in outdoor sport.
In Lithgow on Sunday the temperature never rose above five degrees and yesterday at 9am it was only three degrees in the city and with the south westerlies still creating an even more testing wind chill factor.
No roads in the Lithgow area were closed by the weather but occasional rain contributed to accidents on River Lett Hill and the Scenic Hill.
Ominously mid afternoon yesterday the weather bureau was forecasting the possibility of further overnight snow down to 850 metres, placing the local area again within the snowline.
