VARANASI: A Jharkhand Police constable and three others were killed when when a speeding tanker rammed into a Bolero in Varanasi on Sunday afternoon. In another road mishap in Jaunpur two persons, including a woman, were ran over by a speeding truck.
According to reports, ex-serviceman Shardhanand Tiwari (52) of Bhojpur district in Bihar was preparing for the marriage of his daughter scheduled on July 3.
He had gone to Allahabad along with his relatives, including Nagendra Tiwari (35) of Kaimur and Vinod Tiwari (25) of Rohtas to make some purchases. Vinod was a constable in Jharkhand Police.
On way back to Bhognipur, their vehicle was hit a speeding tanker coming from the opposite direction on the wrong side. All the four occupants of the Bolero were killed on the spot. Driver and cleaner of the tanker escaped from the scene.
The accident paralyzed traffic movement on NH-2 for a few hours. The road was cleared after cops removed the debris of the vehicle and sent the bodies for postmortem. Identity of killed persons was ascertained by identity cards found in their pockets.
Meanwhile, in Jaunpur, a man and a woman travelling on a motorcycle were run over by a speeding truck near Goitha village under the Madiyahu police station. According to reports, Manoj Gautam (35) , of Virbhanpur was going somewhere with his sister-in-law Saroja (30) of Line Bazaar area on a motorcycle. As The mishap occurred when the duo reached Jaunpur-Mirzapur highway. Both died on the spot. Their bodies were sent for postmortem.
One killed: Jaislene (50), hailing from Krishna Nagar in Tamil Nadu, was killed and two others were injured when two trucks collided head on near a petrol pump in Sarveshpur area under the Jalalpur police station in Jaunpur district on Sunday.
According to reports, Jaislene along with his companion driver Shiva, who also belonged to Tamil Nadu, was heading towards Varanasi. While passing through Sarveshpur a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction collided with their vehicle. Jaislene died on the spot while Shiva and driver of the other truck Nasim (20) of Pratapgarh district sustained serious injuries. They were admitted to district hospital.
