80 students take part in swimming camp

The camp was held from June 16 to June 25 to select cadets for the annual All India Nau Sainik Camp

Boys and girls from city colleges made a big splash at a swimming camp by the Naval unit, National Cadet Corps, Puducherry.

The camp was held from June 16 to 25 to select cadets for the annual All India Nau Sainik Camp held in Visakhapatnam.

The camp was headed by Commanding Officer, Commander Sanjay Nandedkar.

There were 80 candidates, of which 57 were boys and 23 were girls, from the Bharathidasan Government College for Women, the Rajiv Gandhi Government College, the Indira Gandhi Government College, the Tagore Arts College and the Mothilal Nehru Polytechnic College.

The camp was held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the forenoon session reserved for girls and the session following for boys.

Associate NCC Officer S.Lt. M. Lydia Rajakumari took up the training for the girls and Associate NCC Officer S. Lt. Sankaran led the training for the boys under the supervision of Chief Instructor S.C. Yadav.

The first three days had basic swimming sessions followed by training on 50m swimming and 3-minute floating. Boat pulling, semaphore and firing were also part of the training programme.

Sunesan and Bhavaveni from the Rajiv Gandhi Government College shared the first prize and Mathivanan from the Tagore Arts College and Lakshmipriya from the Bharathidasan Government College for Women shared the second prize.
