Family members and friends filled Lambert Hall at Marist Brothers High School in Flagstaff yesterday to pay their last respects to Roy Ravana Junior.
Ravana Jnr was described as “a young, humble and committed young man” by those who knew him.
Former MBHS headboy Jone Veisamasama said he met Roy about 14 years ago in Year One at Veiuto Primary School.
“The first time I met him was back in class one and from then on he made us smile, cry, fume with anger and irritated or just laugh till we almost fell over and that was life with Roy,” he said.
“Roy was kind and not so much in words but in deeds; it was his passion and inspiration that lifted the boys from the brink of despair in 2012 to that sweet victory at the Coca Cola Games”
“The victory will forever be etched in our memories because Roy was the man of that honour and all we have is memories which we will cherish forever.”
Ratu Tira Narara described Roy as a brother who stood by him no matter what.
“Roy was a brother to me; he always had my back; If only I had spent more time with him,” Ratu Tira said.
“Hearing his passing was a shock to me because he had a bright future ahead of him but God wanted him back and all we have is memories.”
Mrs Ravana said her son was a caring and dedicated person who had left a huge vacuum in their lives and will be sadly missed by his loved ones.
“We will always cherish the achievements and memories of Roy who always made us proud with his deeds both in sports and education,” she said.
“Jnr was a gift from God and I will always treasure the memories of the time we spent together.
Ravana Jnr was laid to rest at the Suva Cemetery yesterday.
