Manjari Phadnis: 'Warning' wasn't promoted very well

Manjari Phadnis, who was recently in the city to walk the ramp for a bridal fashion show, didn’t get a chance to see much of Jaipur, but is very keen on shopping in the city.
She says, “This was my third visit to the city, I’ve also shot in Pushkar and have been to Ajmer before, but I haven’t seen much of Jaipur. I’ve heard so much about it, though, the beautiful jootis you get, the intricate embroidery work that happens here, stones are supposed to be very authentic.I just basically want to shop here, also because I don’t know too many people in Jaipur, so I wouldn’t know what else to do.”

Manjari’s last Bollywood release, Warning, didn’t do very well at the box office, but she says that film was really close to her heart. “That film wasn’t promoted very well, but I had loved the character,” she says. Warning, and Grand Masti before that, also changed the perception people had of Manjari as a girl-next-door because of her role in Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na.
She says, “I’m an actress, I’m supposed to be able to pull off all kinds of characters. People tend to typecast you in a certain kind of role, but it’s my job to look like the role demands me to look – glam or otherwise. Earlier, I wasn’t being offered those kind of glam roles, but now that’s also changing.”
In her next, Wah Taj, Manjari is playing a Maharashtrian farmer’s wife, which she says is also a very different character. “In the meantime,” she says, “I keep doing Kannada, Malayalam and Bengali films. I’m good with languages, so even though these films are more work for me than usual, I get what’s happening around me on the sets.”
