Chandrasekar, the 31-year-old man fatally knocked down by former city

Velusamy's official vehicle on May 27, was given an ex-gratia cheque of Rs 5 lakh from the
chief minister's relief fund by CM J Jayalalithaa on Friday evening.
Chandrasekar, who worked at a knitwear unit at Palladam in Tirupur district came in the way of Velusamy's speeding car and was knocked down near Vettupattankuttai near Palladam.
Initial reports indicated that the bleeding youth was not attended to by the occupants of the mayor's official car. Fortunately, a few residents rushed him to Palladam government hospital and later to a private hospital in Coimbatore where he was declared dead after being kept on ventilator support till May 31.
Chandrasekar was on his way to work when the accident occurred. He is survived by his wife, infant daughter and old parents residing at Karaiputhur. The chief minister had announced the ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh on June 5 itself and the cheque was handed over to the family in Chennai on Friday. Velusamy stepped down as
Mayor of Coimbatore city on the night of May 27 which because of the low winning margin for the party in Coimbatore and the hit-and-run accident. A native of Dindigul district, Chandrasekar had relocated to Tirupur with his family a couple years ago to work in the knitwear units as a tailor.
