Deschanel’s indie band signs with Columbia

Zooey Deschanel’s indie duo She & Him has signed with Columbia Records, with the star of Fox’s “New Girl” and her collaborator, M. Ward, expected to release a new album in the fall, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

She & Him were previously signed with independent label Merge Records, where they released four albums, including a 2012 holiday record titled “A Very She & Him Christmas.”

Deschanel has been known to sing in her acting roles, including 2003’s “Elf” and “New Girl,” where she wrote and performed the theme song and sang with Prince in a Season Three episode.

The actress met Ward on the set of the 2007 film “The Go-Getter,” in which she starred and he produced the soundtrack. The movie’s director asked them to perform a duet together and they released their first album in 2008 — which has sold over 1 million albums domestically.
