Chashma Barrage discharge measurement fault ractified

ISLAMABAD - Ministry of Water and Power on Friday announced that fault developed in discharge measurement, causing less discharge of water downstream Chashma Barrage has been ractified and supply of due share of water to provinces has been restored.
According to ministry officials, a technical fault was developed in discharge measurement system through the power house at Chashma Barrage on Wednesday. This system is run by the Indus River System Authority (IRSA).
It was learnt that this fault was causing less discharge of water down-stream Chashma Barrage. To address the issue, an emergency meeting of IRSA and WAPDA was called to review the situation.
It was decided to immediately send a team of technical experts who could fix the issue. A team of experts comprising of members from Province of Sindh, Punjab, Nespak and Wapda and headed by member IRSA from KPK was sent to the site to take appropriate action.  The team visited the site on Thursday traced and restored the supply to its original levels, which are granted under the Water Apportionment Agreement of the Provinces of Sindh and Balochistan. The official directed the technical expert team to submit a detailed report about the technical fault till June 30th 2014, so that appropriate measures could be taken and any disruption could be avoided in future. The ministry claims that the fault ratification in no time is evidence of coordination between Wapda and IRSA. The coordination has been further strengthened to respond to such technical faults in future on fast tract basis. Officials also added that member IRSA Sindh Mazhar Ali Shah has been notified by the Ministry of Water and Power on June 26, 2014.
