Hyderabad: An autorickshaw driver was sentenced to 10 years in jail for abducting and raping a 17-year-old Intermediate girl student in June 2013.
The First Metropolitan Sessions Judge convicted Mohammed Aslam Chawoos on Wednesday under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and under 366-A (kidnapping a minor). The convict was given five years RI for kidnapping. Both sentences will run concurrently.
Chawoos, an autorickshaw driver of Chandrayanagutta, used to ply a seven seater. He befriended the victim when she used to travel in his auto. She was then a second year student at a college in Santoshnagar, He started harassing her and was even admonished by her, but he continued to trouble her, police said.
On June 26, 2013, Aslam threatened to pour acid on her and forced the victim to board his autorickshaw, and he took her to the MGBS bus stand.
“The accused took her to Karimnagar and raped her at a lodge there, and brought her back to Hyderabad and again sexually assaulted her at a lodge in Afzalgunj,” said an officer.
Based on the complaint of the victim’s father, a case was registered by the Santoshnagar police.
