Kareena Kapoor is today focused on being part of big budget commercial entertainers. That she is part of Rohit Shetty's Singham Returns is clear proof of her stance.

Ask her if she would now be averse to essaying roles in slightly offbeat films like Chameli, Dev and Omkara that she has done in the past with much critical acclaim. She says, "I will do it if the script and role excites me. I will not do it just to be part of such projects."

Kareena was in fact one of the few top mainstream actors to agree to be part of such scripts at the nascent phase of her career. She says, "I was one of the most commercial actresses to be part of such film early on in my career. However, today I will not do such films just for the heck of it or because it is a hatke film. I don't have to prove anything to anyone. I will do it again if the story is good. Till then I am happy doing commercial films"

You wonder if she did any of those films just for the sake of it in those days. "No, I did it because I needed to balance myself as an actor. I come from a family of actors and I wanted to prove myself as an actor," she explains.

The actor goes a step further to explain her point and draws a parallel with mother-law Sharmila Tagore's acting career. "I played a prostitute in Chameli so may years ago. I played it again in Talaash. In the long span of my career I have played a prostitute twice just like my mother-in-law Sharmilaji. She played a prostitute in Amar Prem and Mausam in a span of 13 years. So have I and both have been great films of my career."

Kareena points out that when she was offered the part in Talaash by director Reema Kagti she said yes immediately. "I wanted to do the film because the story was good."
