Five revenue officials run over by lorry in Kurnool

Five revenue officials of Orvakal mandal in Kurnool district died on the spot and some others suffered severe injuries when a speeding sand lorry hit them at Pudicherala meeta in Nanoor revenue village on Wednesday.

KURNOOL: Five revenue officials of Orvakal mandal in Kurnool district died on the spot and some others suffered severe injuries when a speeding sand lorry hit them at Pudicherala meeta in Nanoor revenue village on Wednesday.
According to Orvakal police, the revenue officials were inspecting a piece of government land for the establishment of National Institute of Information Technology (NIIT).
The eight-member team was also waiting for the visit of district collector M Sudharshan Reddy later during the day. As the village tehsildar, along with other officials stood near the road discussing with local people about the land and its road connectivity, a speeding sand lorry coming from Kurnool to Nandyal ran into them. Five officials died and three were injured in the incident.
The deceased were identified as revenue inspector Srinivasulu and village assistants Shivaramulu, Venkateshwarlu, Gopal and Ramakrishna. The condition of Orvakal tehsildar Sunitha Bai, VRO Thimmiah and a villager Naidu, is said to be critical and they were kept under observation in a hospital.
District collector M Sudharshan Reddy rushed to the site. Orwakal SI said a case was registered and an inquiry is on.
