KANPUR: A 28-year-old woman was allegedly abducted and gangraped by four armed men in Auraiya district.
Police said the woman, a resident of Roshanpur area, had gone to her maternal uncle's house in Mohalla Padheen Darwaza of the district on Sunday. While on her way back home, she went missing under mysterious circumstances. The girl's family members, however, recovered the girl lying in an unconscious state from Jana area of the district on Monday afternoon.
The Ayana police, following a tip off from the victim, booked four persons including one Ram Singh and Puti in this connection.
"She told the police that one Ram Singh and Puti, riding on a two-wheeler possessing arms, abducted the woman on finding her alone from the Roshanpur turn close to National Highway on gun point. When they were taking her to a secluded place, two more men joined them. The four assaulted the woman and after taking her to another secluded place, they took took turns to rape her. They later dumped her in a roadside ditch and escaped," said a senior police official.
The incident came to light after woman's family members, along with other locals, launched a hunt for her. They found her lying in an unconscious state in a roadside ditch near Jana area. They alerted the police following which a team reached the spot and admitted the woman to a Community Health Centre, Ajitmal from where she was later referred to a hospital in Kanpur.
Inspector, Ajitmal, who took the statement from the victim, said police have launched an investigation to nab the perpetrators of crime. Police have identified two people and investigations are on to identify two others, he added.
Police registered cases against the accused under IPC sections 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person), 376 (punishment for rape) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation).
