Sugama Sangeeta programme

June 25, 2014 12:29 am | Updated October 18, 2016 03:06 pm IST - Bangalore:

How would you like a Sugama Sangeeta programme to include poets for reciting their own poems with verses explained by them in context, followed by renowned artistes of the genre singing them? “This is exactly what is planned for our monthly programme, ‘Kaviya Nodi Kavithe Keli’, said Y.K. Muddukrishna, president, Karnataka Sugama Sangeeta Parishat, on Tuesday.

He told presspersons that the first programme would be rolled out on June 29, at 10 a.m. at the Gayana Samaja, with octogenarian poet from Dharwad Chennaveera Kanavi reading out his poems. This would be followed by the melodic rendition of eight of his selected poems by Srinivasa Udupa, Ratnamala Prakash, Kikkeri Krishnamurthy, Malathi Sharma, Mrutyunjaya Doddawada and S. Sunitha.

Mr. B. Lakshman Rao, Parishat adviser, said the programme would be followed by honouring of poet H.S. Venkatesha Murthy’, who is turning 70, with poetic recitations and a music programme.

The parishat has held 11 yearly Sugama Sangeeta Sammelanas till date across Karnataka, said Srinivasa Udupa, parishat treasurer. “This year it is being held in Bangalore in which a series of activities, including a poets’ convention (kavi sammelana), had been introduced to promote Sugama Sangeeta,” he said.

The very first Sammelana in 2003 was held under the guidance of G.S. Shivarudrappa, he recalled.
