The film's trailer, which hit the Internet on Monday, received good response from fans.

"Madras," directed by "Attakathi" Ranjith, is one of the eagerly-awaited films of 2014. For the first time, the director has teamed up with Karthi for the film.

The actor, who had a dream start, is going through a rough phase after doing a string of comedy entertainers like "Saguni", "Alex Pandian" and "All in All Azhaguraja" that failed to set the cash registers ringing.

Karthi is back in doing action drama, "Madras," set in the backdrop of North Chennai. The story is about how the actor solves a problem and save his friends. "The movie is not based on an individual. Karthi plays Kaali, an IT graduate. When you see him onscreen, he will not be seen as an actor. He has 'lived' in the film along with other characters," Ranjith was quoted saying by the New Indian Express.

"Ninety nine percent of the movie has been extensively shot in North Chennai and we didn't use heavy makeup for the artistes," the director said.

Catherine Tresa makes her Tamil film debut with "Madras" who plays the female lead opposite Karthi.

The gritty action drama is likely to hit the screens in the third week of July. The film might clash with Dhanush's "Velai Illa Pattadhaari," which is also expected to be released around the same time.

Karthi is hoping to score a hit with "Madras." The first look posters and the trailer have generated positive buzz among fans. It remains to be seen if the film live up to the hype and impress the audience with its content.
