AMRITSAR: Parvinder Singh, who worked as a foreman in the same company at Mosul in Iraq from where 40 Indians were kidnapped, said on Monday that Indian embassy officials in Baghdad were in regular touch with him to get details of the abductees.
Talking to TOI on Monday, Parvinder said, "I am getting regular calls from our embassy in Baghdad which is seeking details of abducted workers from me." He said many of them had reached Iraq illegally so their records were not available with the embassy.
Parvinder alias Lucky had worked for nearly two years in Mosul.
"Being a foreman in the company, I had good relations with everyone, including the management since I could converse in Arabic. I have details of many youth, maybe that's why the Indian embassy officials were seeking information from me," he said.
On Sunday, Hoshiarpur police enquired from him in detail about the abducted youth. "I was made to sit in the police station from 3 pm to 11 pm. It is harassing, but hopefully it helps the government to bring back our boys," he said, adding that Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann was also in touch with him.
Meanwhile, there is no reprieve for relatives of the youth, who learned about their abduction in Iraq after over a week. "A week has passed, there is no information about our boys except assurances from the government," said Gurpinder Kaur, sister of abducted youth Manjinder Singh. She said they were helpless and had no option except to trust the words of government. Gurpinder said she received a call from Union ministry of external affairs assuring that government would locate her brother and other youth soon.
Harbhajan Kaur, mother of abducted youth Harsimranjit Singh of Babowal village in Amritsar, said, "It is very disappointing that there is no information about my son and others so far. I am at a loss to think what more we can do to trace our children."
