Car crash kills 18-year-old

An 18-year-old boy was killed and four others injured when a car crashed into a tree after one of its tyres burst near the dividing road of sectors 7 and 8 in the wee hours of Saturday.

CHANDIGARH: An 18-year-old boy was killed and four others injured when a car crashed into a tree after one of its tyres burst near the dividing road of sectors 7 and 8 in the wee hours of Saturday.
The five friends were coming from the Sukhna Lake direction when the accident took place around 1.30 am. Police said it recovered an open liquor bottle, five disposable glasses and packets of chips from the car, a Honda Accord.
DSP (east) Chepyala Anjitha said, "No other vehicle hit the car. The driver lost control and rammed it into a roadside tree. The medical examination of one of the injured confirmed the presence of alcohol. An open liquor bottle was lying on the rear seat."
The victim, Aditya Singla, had cleared his Class XII exams from SD School in Sector 32 with 87% marks. His father, Vijay Singla, owns a leading medical store in Sector 17. A relative of the victim said, "Aditya had left the house around 8.45 pm. He talked to his brother over the phone around 9.15 pm. All the five had studied together."
The injured were Sawanpreet Singh, a resident of Sector 34, Rishab and Varinderjeet Singh, both from Mohali and Manjeet Singh, a resident of Sector 29. All of them were 19 year olds. The condition of Varinderjeet was critical. He was battling for life at Advance Trauma Centre in PGI. Sawanpreet and Rishab were admitted to a private hospital in Mohali. Their condition was stated to be stable. The car was being driven by Sawanpreet.
Sources said Varinder, Manjeet and Aditya were sitting on the rear seat and a sharp accessory of the car stuck into the head of Aditya, who died on the spot. The front safety balloons played a crucial role in saving the lives of driver Sawanpreet and Rishab, sitting in front.
Sources said the youths were dressed in casual clothes and wearing slippers.
The body of Aditya was handed over to family members after the postmortem examination at PGI and cremated on Saturday.

Police said all the five youths were to appear in an exam on Saturday and were studying together at the house of Sawanpreet Singh in Sector 34. All of them decided to take a break and moved out around 12.30 am. Sub-inspector (SI) Virender Singh said all of them went to IT Park, Manimajra, and then Sukhna Lake. He said the accident took place when they were coming from lake to drop Aditya at his house in Sector 21 in Chandigarh around 1.30 am. In a late night development, medical examination of Sawanpreet was conducted and his blood samples taken for forensic examination.
