LAHORE:

As many as 860 graduating students from the four schools of the Lahore University of Management Sciences walked across the stage at the 26th convocation of LUMS – the largest in the university’s history – on Saturday.

The ceremony commenced early morning at the campus and the academic procession made its way to the convocation venue.

Students from the Suleman Dawood School of Business (SDSB), Mushtaq Ahmad Gurmani School of Humanities and Social Sciences (MGSHSS), Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE) and Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law (SAHSOL) were awarded degrees.

According to a statement issued by the LUMS on Saturday, this was the largest convocation in the history of the university.

Vice Chancellor Dr Syed Sohail Naqvi welcomed parents and guests and congratulated the graduating class. Paying tribute to the parents at the convocation, he said:

“As you prepare yourselves for life as graduates, let us pause to pay tribute to those who have been there from the start; who helped you with your first steps and were the first shoulder you leaned on when times were not so kind. Graduates of 2014 may I request you to please rise. We recognise your parents without whom this day would not have been possible.”

Johnson and Sons, Inc North America Markets COO Salman Amin was the keynote speaker at the ceremony. He offered his felicitations to the graduating class of 2014. “Today is your convocation  - a day that marks not just the acknowledgement that you have completed your formal studies, but a day that marks the beginning of a new chapter, dare I say, a new book that each of you is about to write,” he said.

Graduate Night Dinner – a celebrated LUMS tradition – preceded the convocation on Friday. Addressing the graduating class, Dr Naqvi said students defined their own future. He urged students to shape the world ahead of them. High achievers received recognition through National Management Foundation (NMF) medals, corporate medals, and Deans’ honour list plaques.
