Burhani college limits seats, students allege anomalies
MUMBAI: Uncertainty continues to loom over students and staff of Burhani College of Commerce and Arts, Byculla, as the management is restricting admissions to first-year degree course. According to sources, the college has admitted only around 100 students so far in their first-year BCom course, while last year they had admitted around 485 students from their own junior college section.
Several in-house students are now left in a lurch as they have not applied anywhere else.
One of the students who has scored 57% in her HSC complained that the college initially refused to give them forms for the first 10 days. “They already sold a limited number of forms. Now, they have refused to give us forms. They are having a cut-off of 60% for in-house students, which they cannot,” the student said.
Dawood Mandviwala, a trustee of the college, said that he was not aware of the developments. M A Khan, the Mumbai University’s registrar, said, “The college cannot refuse admissions to in-house students. Students and staff can approach the students’ grievances committee.”
