Man duped in name of police inspector in Sabarmati
AHMEDABAD: A Rajkot resident has filed a complaint with Sabarmati police for cheating. His complaint says somebody identified himself as a police inspector and demanded money to settle a rape case. The incident came to light when a team of police went to his home to catch him. Police have sought details of the bank account used.
According to Sabarmati police, Mahek Makwana, 25, a resident of Khodiar Krupa near Momai Hall in Rajkot, was in love with a girl from D-Cabin in Sabarmati.
The love affair went awry after which the girl named him in a rape complaint and alleged that he had developed physical relationship with her after promising marriage.
"Recently when a team of city police went to Rajkot to catch him in connection with the case, he told the team that he had already paid police inspector P K Lila of Sabarmati police station. When Lila denied such allegations, Makwana told the team that somebody had called him up on his phone on May 23 and had told him to deposit Rs 45,000 in a bank account towards the settlement of the case. Believing the caller, Makwana had paid the money," said a Sabarmati police official.
Investigators said that the said bank account was found in name of one Bipin Rajgor. Search for the account holder has begun, said police.
