23-year-old woman ends life, husband held

A 23 year old woman committed suicide on late Thursday at her home at Ghawaddi village of Dehlon. Her body was found hanging from the ceiling fan.

The Dehlon police registered a case under Section 304-B (dowry death) of the IPC against her husband Veerpal Singh following the complaint of deceased’s father Baldev Singh of Khanpur village of Mullanpur.

The police arrested the accused on Friday.

In his complaint, Baldev told the police that his daughter Manjot Kaur was married to Veerpal Singh, a labourer, around one and a half year ago. They also had an infant daughter. Baldev alleged that Veerpal used to harass Manjot for dowry. Manjot had left the house of her husband on June 17 but on June 18, Veerpal took her back and promised never to harass her again.

Sub-Inspector Amandeep Singh Brar, SHO at Dehlon police station, said the police would produce the accused before the court on Saturday.
