Sangram Singh: Salman Khan advised not to play solo hero

Wrestler-turned-reality TV star Sangram Singh seems to have forged quite a bond with Salman Khan after his Bigg Boss stint. He recently met the actor during the shooting of Kick and received some advice from Salman regarding his career. “Salman bhai humesha achhi advice dete hain,” Sangram told us, adding that he discussed his showbiz career, as well as plans to begin a wrestling league, with him.
Salman to Sangram: Don’t quit TV
I met Salmanji a few days ago.He was busy shooting his movie. He asked me what is happening in my life. I told him about the TV show that I’m doing and asked him if I should meet some directors for better work. He said, ‘Dekho, kaafi actors aaye hain industry mein. Ek film sabki chal bhi jaaye, toh bhi naam banana bahut mushkil hai yahan. Jitne bhi nahi naye aaye hain, usmein sirf Ranveer thoda theek kar raha hai, baaki sab toh thode down hi chal rahe hain. If you want to do films, do movies in which there are established faces with you.’ Maine unse poochha, agar main film mein solo actor rahun toh? Salman bhai started laughing and said, ‘Solo hero toh tabhi chalte hain agar aapke mataji pitaji filmon mein hain, bade aadmi hain ya achhi jaan-pehchan hai, tab solo hero mein fayda hai. Warna toh mere bhai, solo hero aane mein saari responsibility khud pe aa jaati hai. And above all, if the film (a multi-starrer) doesn’t do well, then no one will question you.’ He asked me not to quit TV. He advised me to do films and TV together. He also explained to me the importance of placement of films. Even if I do a film, it will become very tough if it’s not released at a good time.

We are planning a wrestling league
Salman always keeps advising me not to quit TV. He told me that everyone recognizes me now and I should not quit TV. I should also not leave wrestling behind. Wrestling league ke baare mein maine unse baat ki thi. It’s still in the planning stage. Mujhe Salman bhai ki baat bahut sahi lagi. Wrestling matches karne chahiye. It is very easy to say that I want to start a league, but it is quite difficult to execute it. In India, cricket is a religion. Everyone loves cricket here and knowledge of wrestling is very low. People talk about wrestling only when someone wins a medal. We don’t have many facilities here. It is a tough game. Unlike cricket, wrestling ki duration itni kam hoti hai (six minutes) ki jab tak logon ko samajh mein aayega, tab tak game over ho jayegi.

Film woh karo jiski kahani mein dum ho
When I came out of the Bigg Boss house, I was offered some 10 to 15 movies. They were small films mostly, with unknown directors and lesser known production houses. Although I was offered lead roles mostly, some were negative and a few wanted me in the second lead. I refused them. I believe, film woh karo jiski kahani mein dum ho. People know me as a sportsperson but I am new in the film world. I have to decide what sort of films I should do. I will wait for good movies. Abhi baat chal rahi hai. Baat bahut chalti hai, is industry mein sirf baat hi toh chalti hai. Main wahi filmein karunga jiska koi matlab ho. Chhoti banner ki film agar main karunga toh usmein koi famous actor hona chahiye, ya phir main chhota role karunga kisi bade banner mein – jaise Sajid Khan, Karan Johar ki filmon mein. I don’t see the purpose of doing a faltu film. I want to do a small but a strong role. Ab maan lo Salman ki kisi movie mein main sirf 5 minute ka role karta hoon and chhoti film mein lead aata hoon. Weightage toh aakhir Salman ki movie mein jo role kiya hai usse milega and not to the lead role in any small or random movie.
