City of Hope Golf & Tennis tournament a success

COTO DE CAZA, Calif. — Furniture industry executives raised more than $1.4 million here for City of Hope at the West Coast Golf & Tennis tournament and dinner honoring George Tsai and Jason Liu of Fairmont Designs.

The money will benefit cancer, diabetes and HIV-AIDS research at City of Hope, a research and treatment organization based in Duarte, Calif.

Tsai, the chairman of Fairmont Designs, and Liu, the company’s CEO, received the National Home Furnishings Industry’s Lifetime Achievement Award at the event, which was held June 9 at the Coto de Caza Country Club.

The fundraiser was the premier West Coast philanthropic event of the National Home Furnishings Industry Chapter for City of Hope. It was co-chaired by Neil Friedman, Larry Furiani, Michael Gennet, Rick Powell, Chuck Reilly and Debra Tous. They met monthly to produce it.

Athena Miller, a 19-year-old cancer survivor, sang the National Anthem. Melissa Shaw, a Fairmont Designs employee from Texas, spoke of her successful treatment for Type 1 diabetes at City of Hope.

Fairmont Designs has become a major vertical producer and retailer of case goods, upholstery and bath furnishings. It supplies most of the Top 100 furniture retailers in North America, as well as over 800 bath and plumbing showrooms. Fairmont Designs celebrates its 30 th anniversary this year.
