Afghan singer shot dead in Peshawar

PESHAWAR - A popular female Afghan Pashto singer Gulnaz alias Muskan was shot dead by armed men at her house in the Gulburg area of Peshawar on Thursday.
Police said Gulnaz was asleep inside her house when unidentified armed men barged into the house located at the Gulburg area and opened fire at her. As a result, she was critically injured. Gulnaz was rushed to the Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar where she succumbed to her injuries.
Station House Office Gulburg Police Station Riaz Khan said Gulnaz was married three times and had some dispute with a local person namely Arshad. “Sadaqat, brother of the signer, told police that Arshad is indirectly involved in killing of his sister,” he added.
Police have registered an FIR and started investigation in this regard.
Attacks on Pashto female singers are common in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as earlier prominent singers Aiman Udas and Ghazala Javed were killed. Another actress Bushta was attacked with acid in her house in Nowshera.
Agencies add: Gulnaz, 38, famous under her performing name Muskan, was shot by four gunmen who barged into her house on Wednesday.
