‘Police torture’, robbery take two lives

A protest demonstration was held as a 35-year-old man died in police custody allegedly due to torture while another was killed during robbery on Wednesday.
A murder case was registered against SHO Mian Abid. The victim’s family and people of local people protested against the “killing” by putting the body on the Panseera Road and blocked the road for traffic.
Muhammad Shafiq, a resident of 276-JB Panseera, submitted an application to the police that his cousin Shabir Ahmad was on his way to home the other day along with his licensed pistol when SHO MIan Abid of Thekreywala police station arrested him and “killed” him with torture at the station. The protesters dispersed peacefully after the registration of the case against the SHO.
SUICIDES: Two youth committed suicide by swallowing poisonous pills. Muhammad Naveed, 28, of Taj colony due to unemployment took poisonous pills and finished his life. In another incident, Abdul Rauf of 78-JB Thekreywala over some family and domestic problems swallowed poisonous pills and died at a hospital.
MURDER DURING ROBBERY: In Sheikhupura, four robbers in broad daylight looted women in Ram Gara locality. Meanwhile one Abdul Rauf, a resident of Madina Park, put up resistance and was shot dead by the robbers. Later, the robbers made off with cash, ornaments and other valuables from the women identified as Naila, Mumtaz, Samina.
Meanwhile, an outlaw wearing mask stole medicines and medical valuables worth Rs5 million from Faisalabad Institute of Cardiology.
Source said police had registered a case on the application of Deputy Medical Officer Muhammad Nadeem Akhtar. The medical officer informed the police that late Tuesday night, an accused lifted medical valuables including stents from medical store of FIC. He told the police that with the help of CCTV footages it was seen that an outlaw wearing mask lifted away the valuables. The police have taken FIC employees pharmacy worker, security guard, Adeel, Imran, Abdullah, Rana Ahsan, Tahir and Naveed Shoukat in custody and started investigation.
A medical student was crushed to death by a passenger bus while eight others were injured in different road incidents. Zubair, resident of Ferozwala, was crossing road near Qila Chand when a speedy bus ran over him. Resultantly, he sustained serious injuries. The rescue team shifted him to a hospital where he succumbed to injuries. In other incidents, Muttahir, Rehmat, Amjad, Bashir Ahmed, Yousaf, Qamer and Shoukat got injuries.
