KANPUR: The family of a rape survivor had left the village. Failing to withstand threats from goons of Rampura village in Civil Lines in Etawah, a woman, who was gang raped on February 5 and her family members left the village to take shelter at a safer place.
They were living under constant pressure from local hoodlums for filing a rape case against them.
The goon and his aides had threatened to kill the woman and her family members, if the case lodged against them was not withdrawn. The case was filed on February 6.
The woman alleged that Janak Singh and his accomplices of the same village had raped her after forcibly dragging her into the fields on February 5.
The woman had gone to collect firewood when Janak Singh his men committed the crime. Her husband was not at home at the time of incident. The next day, a case was registered with the Civil Lines police station against the accused.
The woman husband alleged that the police had not acted on their complaint against accused Janak Singh and his accomplices, who pressurized them to leave the village or patch up.
"Despite our complaint, the cops have not arrested even a single person in connection with the incident. When we apprised them about constant murder threats being issued by the accused, they did not provide safety to us. So we decided to move out of the village," her husband said.
SSP Dinesh Kumar said, "We will conduct a probe into the incident and if allegations of threat to the family are found true, serious action would be taken against the people who are threatening the family. Security cover will be given to the woman and her family members."
