Introducing The Fastest Bentley Ever: The Continental GT3-R

This article is more than 9 years old.

Bentley has announced its fastest production car ever, the limited edition Continental GT3-R.

The two-door, two-seat sports coupe is a quickened version of the GT3, with 572 horsepower and a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine that pushes the car to 60 miles per hour in just 3.6 seconds. That’s faster than the Continental GTC Speed and Supersports versions (0-60mph in 4 and 3.7 seconds, respectively), and a full second faster than the Bentley Flying Spur.

Part of that speed comes from the GT3-R’s newly svelte body (100kg lighter than the GT V8 S), while part comes from improved torque, heightened throttle response and a shortened gearing system that allows for that hastened departure and maneuvering capability.

Bentley’s excellent all-wheel-drive and electronic stability control systems are also in full effect here, and the chassis has been specially tuned to make this car feel more dynamic than its non-R counterparts. It comes complete with sport/drive modes, ultra lightweight forged 21-inch wheels and high-grip Pirelli tires (with brake calipers painted an unmistakable green).

Wolfgang Dürheimer, Bentley’s chief executive, called the car “a celebration” of engineering.

“To be a true Bentley, the GT3-R had to be the most luxurious track-inspired Grand Tourer ever,” he said. “This car pushes our trademark combination to a new level.”

Indeed, inside the car is coated in Beluga black leather with diamond-quilted Alcantara, a hand-stitched steering wheel and gear shifter, and carbon fiber trim. On the outside, a new carbon-fiber front splitter and rear wing hint at just how aggressive this car is, as do two new vents in the hood and the glossy black headlamps, grille and bumper. Each of the cars will be painted in “Glacier White” and come with contrast stitching in green thread along the headrests and seats.

All of which goes to make the GT3-R quite unique—it’s the rarest production vehicle Bentley makes, with only 300 of them scheduled for delivery starting before Christmas. Place your order now.
