She haS been at the helm of Runway Rising, a fashion and lifestyle exhibition held in Delhi that showcases the talents of gen-next designers across the country. While that was her only brush with the fashion industry so far, Ramola Bachchan has now teamed up with Dvar, a store in Mumbai, to curate a special section for them.
The month-old store in Juhu, Dvar, houses bridal couture, pret and contemporary Indian wear as well as accessories by over 20 designers, including Charu Parashar, Anju Sant Kumar, Clad Clan and Garema Nagpal. For her first venture in the city, Bachchan has selected six designers whose collections now form a special section at Dvar. These designers are Deepika Govind, Sangeeta Kilachand, Siddharth Tytler, Gauri-Nainika, Arpita Mehta and Dolly J. “Since I’ve already been in the business of promoting fashion with Runway Rising, Vijayta Gandhi and Parth Sanghvi of Dvar approached me to curate a special section at the store,” says Bachchan.
She picked these designers as they represent the diversity in the fashion scene emerging in the country today. “My personal style is eclectic, varying on the mood and occasion, and this reflects in my choice of designers,” she says. While Govind’s collection features her signature sarees in tussar and patola silk with digital prints, Kilachand’s collection includes kurtas with palazzo pants and salwars. There are embellished gowns are Tytler and Dolly J, while Gauri-Nainika’s collection has solid colour dresses. Mehta’s line has her trademark anarkalis with heavy mirror work. “We have plans to add more Dvar stores soon,” says Bachchan, who thinks being a designer in the near future would also be an exciting challenge.
