We have not called off my sister’s wedding: Iniya
The burglary episode that took place at Iniya’s residence at Thiruvananthapuram has shaken the family as the police arrested Shabin, who happened to be Iniya’s elder sister Swathy’s fiancé. The ring exchange ceremony of Swathy and Shabin had taken place in the last week of May and the two had decided to tie the knot soon.
Actress Iniya, who is upset about the whole incident, says, “We have not called off the wedding; nothing has been planned so far.
The case is still being investigated. I haven’t spoken to my sister yet, I want to give her some time. Let her relax and I will talk to her after a few days.” The couple had known each other for some time and Shabin had been a regular visitor at Swathy’s residence.
“He was looking after his family business. They are a well-off family and he was involved in some paint and plantation business. Shabin hails from a good family. He is soft-spoken and as far as I know, their family is wealthier than ours. He came to our house one day and expressed his desire to marry Swathy. My family went to his house, and spoke about this to his parents. They gave their nod for the alliance. It was all arranged,” says Iniya.
According to Iniya, Swathy and Shabin were thick friends. They met through common friends and he was a frequent visitor to their house for the last eight months. “He was very friendly to me as well. I used to respect Shabin because he’s my elder sister’s fiancé. We are still shocked and don’t know what went wrong. He had many friends around and he could have fallen into bad company, which may have influenced him to take such a step. We are still clueless about why or for whom he did it. The investigation is on, and I feel the real culprits are still missing,” she says.
Currently, Swathy is acting in a TV soap, Ponnu Poloru Pennu.
