PETALING JAYA: Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi wrested his first Supersport 600cc win in the Petronas Asia Road Racing Championships after a dramatic battle at the Sentul International Circuit in Indonesia.
The 19-year-old Musashi Boon Siew Honda rider wrapped the win in Race Two in 24:49.441 after a fierce battle with Indonesian riders M. Fadli (T. Pro Yuzy Honda), Dimas Ekky Pratama (Astra Motor Honda) and H. A Yudhistira (Manual Tech KYT Kawasaki).
Dimas settled for second spot in 24:49.661 with Yudhistira in third in 24:50.170.
It was a big relief for Zaqhwan as he could only finish sixth in Race One earlier in wet conditions, that was won by M. Fadli.
“It was an extremely tough race. I had a very bad start in Race One and the wet conditions made it very difficult. “Race Two was far from easy though. I had to push to the limits to fend off the others and luckily my bike had a slight advantage down the straights,” said Zaqhwan.
