Washington: Two weeks after being traded for five high-profile Taliban militants, US Army sergeant Bowe Bergdahl is back on American soil.
Bergdahl, the US Army sergeant who spent five years as a captive in Afghanistan before he gained his freedom in a Taliban prisoner exchange, arrived at an Army medical center in San Antonio, Texas on Friday.
Bergdahl has been transferred from a military treatment facility in Germany to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio for continued rehabilitation.
The Idaho native is expected to be reunited with his family in San Antonio.
Bergdahl was early in the process of recovering from the trauma of captivity, Reports said.
The longest held American soldier, Bergdahl was abducted by the Taliban-aligned Haqqani network in Afghanistan in June 2009 and released by the Taliban on May 31, 2014 in a deal approved by the Obama administration.
However many have criticized the Obama administration to agree upon the deal to release five Taliban prisoners from detention at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in exchange for Bergdahl.
