TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Operation Control Center of the Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) has reported increase in water levels at a number of floodgates in the capital and called on residents to maintain vigilance against possible floods.
The Krukut Hulu floodgate was reported to see increased water level at 5.00 a.m on Friday, June 13, 2014, with its status raised from alert IV to alert III level. The authorities have asked residents in Duri Kosambi, Rawa Buaya, Green Garden, Kedoya Utara and Cengkareng sub-districts to prepare themselves for potential flooding.
The Angke Hulu flood gate also saw a higher water level today and its status had been increased from alert II level. The water level at the floodgate is rising by 10 centimeters per hour and reached 255 centimeters until 7.00 a.m today.
Downpours coupled with strong winds hit a number of areas in the capital last night, causing several roads to be inundated by 10-30-centimeter-deep water and trees collapsing on, among others, Jl. Arteri Pondok Indah, South Jakarta and Jl. Haji Sabaa, Meruya Selatan, West Jakarta.
