In another interesting collaboration, Karan Johar has teamed up with Guneet Monga to produce the official remake of the French film, The Intouchables. Says Monga. “The Intouchables, as we all know, is the most successful foreign film of all time. Apart from that, it is a very heart-warming story and that inevitably makes it a movie to rave about. Executives at Gaumont Film Company, the French mini-major film studio who were selling rights, were actively looking for an Indian production house that could reprise its Indian version. They felt that Sikhya Entertainment was a perfect fit. We’ve always believed in making universally appealing cinema and I thought this would be an interesting movie to remake. I approached Karan, who was a fan of the film as well, and Dharma immediately came on board to co-produce the film. We’re looking forward to this collaboration. We are now working on the development.” Johar took to his Twitter account and mentioned, “Guneet Monga (Sikhya Entertainment) and Dharma Productions will co-produce the official remake of #Intouchables...directed by Mohit Suri.”
The Intouchables was made in 2011 and became the second biggest hit box-office hit in France. It s a dramatic story between the friendship of two men, a rich quadriplegic and his caregiver and has received several award nominations.
