After Udaan, it is healthy child project in Banera village

Teachers are also organising short camps of yoga, health talks by experts etc so as to make children aware about importance of fitness.

After launching `Udaan’ a project to enhance GK of Government school students, now teachers of Government high school Banera are busy with `healthy child’ project so as to make children aware of health problems. The project which was started last year has so far helped in getting a number of school students treated from various types of ailments. Apart from this teachers are also organising short camps of yoga, health talks by experts etc so as to make children aware about importance of fitness.

Devidyal, Mathematics teacher, who had intiated this project said,” we have kept a donation box in school in which teachers and at times students as well put some money as per their will. It happens on birthdays or other important days when someone donates.”

He added,” apart from this teachers of other schools of this district are also told to donate voluntarily in monthly seminars and even visitors in schools also donate voluntarily. So far we have collected about Rs 1 lakh through these donation boxes which which we have got treatment of more than 15 kids done.

One such child was Harkirat Singh- class 7 student who was suffering from some ailment in ear. His treatment was done from PGI in which about 22,000 was the expenditure and 50% was supported through these donations, said Dyal.

Gurjeet Kaur and her brother Jagdeep Singh were suffering from epilepsy and their treatment was done through voluntary donations. Still medicines are being given to them, said Devi Dyal. He said,” Gurjeet is now in class 11 in another school and is doing well. Their parents were believing in superstitions and were not getting them treated. ”

Apart from this four students suffering from TB and one from lungs disorder were also treated free of cost.

Teachers told that these had also been sent to sarv sikhsha abhiyaan but they were refused as the category of SSA is some other ailments.  Students were referred to red cross too for financial help but even that didn’t come.  So finally ‘healthy child’ project was planned.

Apart from this even health check up camps are also planned regularly in which doctors from civil hospital come on priority basis.  Basic tests of children were also done and aneamic kids were thus given iron tablets. Nearly 30 kids were found severly anaemic who were thus given folic acid tablets, said Devi Dyal. He said,” though folic acid tablets are given by Government, but regular check ups tell us as how much dose a particular child needs.”
