Fraport: Frankfurt Airport's May Passenger Traffic Rises 3.7% - Quick Facts

Fraport AG (FRA.DE,0O1R.L,FPRUF.PK), the owner and operator of Germany's Frankfurt Airport, Thursday reported that Frankfurt Airport or FRA home base's passenger numbers grew 3.7 percent in the month of May to around 5.3 million passengers.

FRA's cargo throughput, comprising airfreight and airmail, advanced 6.9 percent to year-over-year to 185,626 metric tons.

Stefan Schulte, Fraport AG's executive board chairman, said, "The strong development in air cargo strengthens our position as Europe's largest cargo airport. Furthermore, this underscores FRA's importance for Germany's export-driven economy and the logistics industry - thus providing a concrete competitive advantage for German business."

FRA's aircraft movements increased one percent year-on-year to 42,366 takeoffs and landings. Accumulated maximum takeoff weights or MTOWs rose by 3.9 percent to 2.6 million metric tons.

As for the international portfolio, the company's airports continued their dynamic development in May 2014. Peru's Lima Airport welcomed nearly 1.3 million passengers, up 4 percent from last year.

On the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, Varna and Burgas airports together received 181,504 passengers - a slight decline of 0.9 percent. Antalya Airport on the Turkish Riviera received about 3.2 million passengers, up 4.5 percent.

French financial services provider Societe Generale S.A. reported Friday that its first-quarter net profit declined from last year amid nearly stable net revenues.
