Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario: Markham Student Wins COIN

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - June 11, 2014) - For the second year running, Aliraza Asrani of Markham District High School has taken first place in the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario's COIN Competition. CPA Ontario held its 2014 competition on May 21 to give high school students considering a career as a Chartered Professional Accountant the opportunity to compete, have fun and earn some cash prizes.

For finishing first, Aliraza receives $1,500 and a plaque. As one of the Ontario students who placed in the top ten of COIN writers, attended an Honour Roll luncheon in Toronto on June 10.

"COIN is a popular CPA Ontario initiative to encourage students to consider becoming a Chartered Professional Accountant," said Sheetal Gupta, CPA, CA, Associate Director of Career Information at CPA Ontario. "This year over 200 students from more than 60 high schools across the province participated in this highly competitive contest."

CPA Ontario also announced the top contest winners from across the province. The first place prize provincially is $1,500, with the second place winners each receiving $1,000 and third place finisher getting $500, with their respective high schools receiving matching amounts. The rest of the Top 10 Honour Roll members each received $100 and an invitation to the awards luncheon.

The top Ontario-wide winners are:



-- 1st place All Ontario - Aliraza Asrani, Markham District High School
-- 2nd place All Ontario (Tied) - BeiChen Lin, Richmond Hill High School
-- 2nd place All Ontario (Tied) - Claire Peng, Centennial Collegiate
Vocational Institute, Guelph
-- 3rd place All Ontario - Abhishek Madan, The Woodlands School,
Mississauga



To win, the students competed by answering 75 questions at the premises of a firm employing CPAs. Think it's easy? Would you know:

-- How to assess depreciation?
