A major train mishap was averted on Wednesday in West Bengal's Bardhaman district after a truck rammed into the engine of a passenger train at Palitpur but there was no casualty.

BARDHAMAN: A major train mishap was averted on Wednesday in West Bengal's Bardhaman district after a truck rammed into the engine of a passenger train at Palitpur but there was no casualty.
Bardhaman railway station manager Sapan Adhikary said a ten-wheeler coal laden truck rammed into the engine of 3501 passenger train from Palgana to Bardhaman at an unmanned level crossing at Palitpur.

The alert driver of the train applied brakes immediately after the lorry rammed into the engine of the train, Adhikary said.
The driver and helper of the truck escaped after the incident as the vehicle and engine of the train was badly damaged.
An engine was sent to Palitpur which brought the train to Bardhaman after about two hours of the incident, he said.
"I have informed the higher authorities on the demand of locals to construct a gate at the level crossing to avoid this kind of mishaps provide security to rail passengers", Adhikary said.
