COIMBATORE: A 34-year-old mobile shop owner drowned in a well at Maniyakarampalayam near Ganapathy in the city on Monday. The body was retrieved from the well on Tuesday. Police claimed that the man was in an inebriate condition and had fallen into the well.
Police said the deceased, D Babu from Sakthi Nagar near Saravanampatti was mourning the death of his nephew Manoj who had also drowned in the same well, two years ago and that he was often found crying next to it.
Manoj's second death anniversary was on June 7.
On Monday morning, after he dropped his children to school, he did not return home. His wife, Geetha, 29, tried to contact him, but his mobile was switched off. Meanwhile, Saravanampatti police were alerted that a motorcycle was abandoned near the well. The fire and rescue service personnel on Tuesday morning they pumped out the water and retrieved his body. The body was then sent to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for postmortem.
Saravanampatti police registered a case and detailed investigation is on.
