PURNIA: A strong
mob angry over the death of a person in a road accident near Rupauli under the same
police station under Dhamdaha sub-division in Purnia district torched the
bus inside the police station on Monday.
The mob, protesting against the death of Mehinagar resident
Ravi Shanker, allegedly collected at the police station. They not only pelted stones, but some anti-social elements also reportedly opened fire, police said.
Police were forced to retaliate and opened fire in self-defence. This also foiled the mob's fury to set ablaze the police station as well.
Shanker was allegedly run over and killed by a speeding bus near Rupauli Chowk, which led to the mob fury and unruly behaviour, informed sources said. Police have already lodged an FIR against unknown persons on the basis of the report of the circle officer, police said. The video footage has reportedly identified some persons who indulged in mayhem and unruly behaviour, sources said.
