No headway in IIIT-A student harassment case
ALLAHABAD: Police is still groping in dark in the sexual harassment case of M Tech girl student of Indian Institute of Information and Technology (IIIT-A) who was harassed by associate professor CVS Shiva Prasad of the institute. It is being said that he has switched off his mobile phone from the past four days. The police had earlier traced his mobile location in Delhi. The professor has been summoned to appear before the probing committee of IIIT-A on Tuesday.
On Monday Bhartiya Janta Party leaders led by Vivek Kumar Srivastava, also met victim and her family members and assured them of help. The family members too met SSP and asked for expediting the case.
FIR under section 354 (A) of IPC against professor has been registered by the Dhoomanganj police on the girl's allegation that he summoned her to his office and harassed her.
The student had also lodged a complaint with the IIIT-A authorities, including director, chief proctor and chairperson of the institute's committee for prevention of sexual harassment of women. The committee members had decided to summon both the girl and the professor to record their statement regarding the incident for further investigation but despite repeated attempt by the probe committee to summon Shiva Prasad to enquire upon the allegation made against him proved futile.
It may be mentioned here that the student was working on a project in the institute's bioinformatics division under Prasad's guidance for the past one year. The associate professor has earlier been accused of similar three harassment cases but till date no action was taken against him. This has also raised question mark against the institute.
