Gujarat?s Jyotirgram Yojana, one of the major achievements of PM Narendra Modi?s Gujarat model of development through which the state government succeeded in electrification of 18,000 villages and supply of power to the remotest locations of the state, may soon be replicated at the national level. This was indicated by Union minister for coal and power Piyush Goyal after a careful scrutiny of the Gujarat power management model on his first official trip to the state after assuming charge.
Briefing mediapersons after a marathon five-hour series of meetings and discussions with Gujarat minister of finance and energy Saurabh Patel and senior officials of the state energy and power departments, Goyal said, ?If the Gujarat model is replicated across India, a power revolution can take place.?
Lauding the Jyotirgram Yojana, Goyal said that he intended to ?replicate the model in India and provide 24X7 electricity at reasonable rates to every Indian. I plan to go back and work on a timeframe to achieve this target.?Among the other major takeaways from Gujarat?s model of power management which Goyal cited were the effective containing of transmission and distribution losses by the state.
