My brother is my biggest critic, says Lingusamy

Lingusamy says that his brother had the knack of choosing some good films
My brother is my biggest critic, says Lingusamy
Lingusamy, whose production house Thirrupathi Brothers newest offering Manjapai hits the screens today, is a confident man. I promise you, after Thavamai Thavamirundhu, this is going to be one of Rajkirans biggest hits. He has delivered a phenomenal performance, beams a proud Lingusamy.
Manjapai tells a very simple story that of the relationship between a grandfather and a grandson, and how, despite there being a world of difference in their backgrounds, they still manage to strike a chord.
Talking about its unique title, Lingusamy says, The title is the identity of the film. Just like a persons name, it encompasses everything that the film stands for. Of late, there have been several quirky titles in Tamil cinema.
Two which caught my attention were Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom and Kadhalil Sothappuvathu Eppadi. Titles like these automatically make the audience curious. So, I wanted to have an interesting title. Generally, people from the rural areas are referred to as manjapai in colloquial slang. It seemed interesting and since Rajkiran essays one such character, I thought it would be apt.
Rajkiran, who essays the grandfather in this film, says, Youngsters today do not respect their elders. Little do they realise that tomorrow, they will also be in the same position. This film highlights the relationship between a grandson and grandfather. By watching this film, even if five youngsters change their outlook and give the respect that elders need, for me, that will be real success.
Its been over 24 years since Lingusamy got into cinema. But he is still as fascinated by it as he was when he used to sit with his brother Subash Chandra Bose discussing ideas that they would make into films one day. Today, their dream has evolved into a successful production house. My brother was my first critic and we are very close. He has a knack of choosing good scripts, and that has reflected in the films that we have done in the past like Goli Soda, Vazhakku Enn 18/9 and Paiyya.
